Islington, 19 April – Mirrors & Symmetry

Today we looked at Mirror images and symmetry in objects around us. We have examined various everyday objects like pens, scissors, looked at symmetry in Nature, like leaves and flowers, following with symmetry in buildings and architecture.
There was lots of fun looking for symmetry lines in different shapes and drawings. We have checked bugs like beetles and ladybirds, bear, cats and even Sponge Bob!
Kids have drawn other halves of various shapes, then checked the symmetry with mirrors. Some of our drawings created different shapes, buildings and faces entirely, some even looking like Monsters!
Children posed to create a mirror image of their friends, with rather entertaining results.
Finally we have created mini kaleidoscopes, and checked patterns that can be created with them.
It was a lively workshop after the long Easter break.
Not much in terms of images this time, Sorry, I have left my camera at home and my phone refused to cooperate.
