Calligraphy

Calligraphy, a way of writing beautifully…

That was the theme of this session. Using some samples and templates, as well as special calligraphy pens, brush pens and stylus nibs, Children have tried to write with real liquid Indian ink, “like in the old days”.

We have looked at different letter types, used in the past, like Script and Gothic and more modern Technical letters, to create beautiful scriptures and tried to copy them.

The way of using nib pens was not as easy as it looked, but with a bit of practice, few splodges of ink and a bit dirty fingers children have written and drawn some quite nice letters, drawings, some even started writing journals and diaries! Children even came up with secret codes and invented their own alphabets.

It’s a good practice in preparation for the upcoming World Book Day on March 1st!
