3D geometry
Experimenting with 3D geometric forms…
This week we have looked at making 3-dimensional geometric forms.
Children have learned how one can turn floppy strips of paper into rigid building elements.
Using card templates with flat geometric shapes children have constructed various 3D Polyhedra and cuboids.
Each group had their favourite polyhedron; some have chosen a simple cube, or tetrahedron, some preferred to build an octahedron, or more complex dodecahedron – or an irregular and asymmetrical 3D form of their own design!
Great work everyone! Now you can build any 3D geometric form that you desire!
POLYHEDRON
In geometry, a polyhedron (plural polyhedra or polyhedrons) is a solid in three dimensions with flat polygonal faces, straight edges and sharp corners or vertices.
The word polyhedron comes from the Classical Greek πολύεδρον,
as poly- (πολύς, “many”)
+
-hedron (ἕδρα, “base” or “seat”).
